documenting peaceful moments for my memory bank
i'm really inspired by truman capote's writing. he's one of my favorite authors and his book of essays, portraits and observations, is just the best. the book is a collection of vignettes - writings that capture the ambience and mood of the moment. his writing style is so beautiful. i remember reading his most famous book, in cold blood, as a teenager and languishing in the prose. although the topic was incredibly dark, his writing felt like drinking heavy cream.
i want to capture more observations of the moment. today i went to one of my favorite parks in the city. i wanted to savor the moment so i recorded a soundscape and wrote a few words. i thought about preserving it for my memory bank so i can recall it more vividly when i'm feeling sad. i want my memory bank to feel more like a memory arboretum - lush and winding and full of trees.
10,000 steps
i'm feeling loved by the light today. it's late morning and the light is beaming and warm. clouds of mist dot my eyeline as the morning dew evaporates off the grass, creating a misty, mystical aura. the road is adjacent but the sounds are muffled by the tree layers, blending into the sounds of the park. birds, squirrels, and gravelly steps.
i'm trying to get my 10,000 steps in. me and my dog. i think the 10,000 steps thing was created as a marketing ploy for a step counter. but still, i try not to let that diminish the magical power of 10,000. a perfectly smooth, round number that's worth striving for. should my dog get 10,000 steps too? or would it be 40,000?
